“There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven’t yet met.”
William Butler Yeats

Connect with the people around you. With family, friends, colleagues and neighbours. At home, work, school or in your local community. Think of these as the cornerstones of your life and invest time in developing them. Building these connections will support and enrich you every day.

Connect with others

Every person is different and has different levels of needs but all people can benefit from developing and maintaining connections with family, friends and the wider community.

Family

Good family relationships are the foundations of well-being. In contrast dysfunctional families cause a lifetime of misery for far too many people. Being there for family is good for them and it feels good for you. The loving bonds that family members have need to be nurtured through regular, quality connections.

Friends

Socialising and recreation with friends are some of the best times we have in life. Friends also provide support and encouragement when you need it. Brotherly love is a source of security, joy and gratification.

Connect with others in the community

Community engagement is often neglected in the pursuit of a high consumption life. A person might be building monetary wealth, but dedicating too much attention to consumption and the acquisition of wealth, whilst neglecting family, social and community life, can lead to a society of selfish, alienated individuals.

By connecting with your community and fulfilling social responsibilities you are benefiting the whole and therefore yourself and your family.

If you join a community group, for example, you can share your skills and resources to help everyone and at the same time you have the opportunity to learn and receive support.
