The Sustainable Food Pyramid shows the foods that harm our bodies also harm the earth; whereas the earth naturally produces things that nourish and nurture our bodies.

The sustainable food pyramid shown below, developed by the Barilla Center for Food & Nutrition, generally indicates that the healthier the food group is for us the less impact that food group has on the environment. Put simply, what harms our bodies harms the earth; and the earth naturally produces things that nourish and nurture our bodies.

The traditional food pyramid recommends a plant-based diet over one centred around meat. It is also recommended to consume protein in forms other than animal meat such as nuts, quinoa, beans, and even (free-range) eggs. The food pyramid guidelines fall short of suggesting abstinence from meat but they do recommend that meat should be minimised.
