The Guitar

The perfect design?

The acoustic guitar could be the perfect example of a sustainable design because it highlights so many of the features and benefits of sustainability.

It is handmade (or at least mostly handmade) from a traditional design. Modern enhancements have improved it over time and new production systems and tools have made it cheaper and therefore more egalitarian.

It is mostly made from renewable materials. It is durable, if well looked after a guitar could last for generations. If it is damaged it is repairable.

It is portable and doesn’t need electricity or fuel to run it.

It looks and sounds beautiful.

It allows people to connect with each other. It allows people to be active, to learn, to give and to share. It allows people to enjoy the thrill of a challenge and the state of flow that that brings. It allows people to savour the moment, be creative, and to experience life more actively and more fully.

It is a design that only brings well-being.
